The process of pyrolysis is what will sustain recycling in the future. It is aimed at improving lifestyle by sustaining the natural environment. Pyrolysis breaks down materials known to cause environmental damage. Simply put, it contains a furnace devoid of oxygen with capability to break down gases and liquids.
Almost all waste materials can be processed using pyrolysis. Very little change in technique is needed. In other words, materials known to cause environmental damage can be easily recycled into useful components.
With a little modifiction in technique, nearly any waste material of any type can be proccessed for pyrolysis. Meaning that all troublsome materials can be recycled into another form.
Pyro = heat. Lysis = break down.
Pyro stands for heat and lysis stands for breakdown.
It is basically a chemical reaction to break down larger molecules. A reaction takes place wherein smaller molecules are generated under intense heat. The processes of cracking, depolymerisation, and thermolysis are also commonly referred to as pyrolysis.
Molecules vibrate at high temperatures. Molecular vibration occurs at a frequency directly related to the temperature at which molecules are exposed.
Pyrolysis exposes items to heat, and each molecule within the item begins vibrating at a speed induced by high temperature. Every molecule is stretched during the vibration stage to an extent that it breaks down into a smaller molecule.
A simple example of pyrolysis is the cooking process. As food is cooked at high temperature, complex food molecules are broken down into simpler and smaller molecules that are easily digestible.
Tyre and plastic pyrolysis is a process where materials are subjected to temperatures between 400 to 450°C in an atmosphere devoid of oxygen. This is done to prevent plastic from burning. During the process of pyrolysis, both materials break down into finer hydrocarbon molecules comprising of pyrolysis gas, pyrolysis oil, and carbon black, similar to the original materials used. Recycling through pyrolysis produces excellent results, as indicated by immense benefits gained through the process.
Industries set up pyrolysis plants to convert waste tire and plastic materials into pyrolysis items like pyrolysis gas, carbon black, and pyrolysis oil. The recycling system has created many business opportunities in the fields of:
Every month, tons of waste tyre and plastic materials are generated across the globe. Pyrolysis is capable of converting this waste into fuel thereby saving millions of dollars in energy costs. Pyrolysis is gaining importance in the recycling industry. It is the recycling process that can save fuel, reduce waste going into landfills, and protect the environment from hazardous tyre and plastic waste.
